On my Christchurch Hiking Tour I can have you at our starting point  within 20 minutes drive from the Cathedral in a very pretty coastal area to the South East called Taylors Mistake from where our hiking point starts  Allow 3 hours for the hike and 4 hours if you chose the  picnic lunch option .
    Depending on the state of the tide and the mood of the sea we can walk along the sandy beach below the baches( week end houses) Throughout the walk I will walk with you for periods and then double back to pick up the vehicle and then leapfrog and join you 10 minutes later. This way you have a choice to walk as much or as little as you choose.
    Coming from the Taylors Mistake side this is the hardest climb you have up to the view point above. If you like you can join me and take the easy way up in the car or enjoy the winding track as it takes you over the head of the peninsula .We can rest a while on the bench that looks out to Godley Head and listen to the chorus of seabirds that swoop along the cliff face that we now sit above. The hike offers you the chance to see a great combination of plants, interesting volcanic geology, wonderful landscapes and some of Christchurchs' most attractive houses. My favourite view is towards the end of the walk  looking back across the city and beyond to the snow capped Southern Alps.
After an enjoyable walk you can cool your feet in the waves on the sandy beach at Sumner.
