My Akaroa Day tour to see the Hectors Dolphins is an 8 hour trip leaving Christchurch via the Summit road which gives you magnificent views over both the Lyttleton Harbour, Christchurch City and out across the plains to the Southern Alps. You will visit a cheese factory to enjoy some tastings, homemade morning tea on a remote beach and be amazed at  the spectacular views over Banks Peninsula, and enjoy a delicious home made picnic lunch in a scenic location.  Akaroa is 83 kilometres from Christchurch,set on a beautiful, sheltered harbour and overlooked by craggy volcanic hills, Akaroa is a popular week end retreat  with a population of around 750. It is a quiet spot  but expands to over 7,000 at  Christmas Holiday time when locals come from Christchurch for their long Summer vacation.
